HEAR O ISRAEL – THE GREATEST COMMANDEMENT – A HEBREW PRAYER (SHEMA)

Moses stood on the mountain and said Shema which means (“hear”) is a Hebrew word, The start of the most important prayer in Judaism. It is found in Deuteronomy 6:4, which begins with the command to “Hear.” The whole Shema prayer, which includes verses 4-9, is spoken daily in the Jewish tradition:

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!

The Great Commandment

Mark 12

V28.  And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

Now hear o Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one, the greatest commandment,

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
